Another Multi-Million Scandal Hits Waiguru's Ministry

Another heavy cloud hangs over Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru's Ministry of Devolution, after a new corruption scam was reported in the department of Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF).

An audit report has revealed that the department lost over Sh180 Million in a conspiracy by a section of its top management.

Acting CEO of YEDF, Catherine Namunye, is said to have colluded with the Finance Manager to defraud the department in a period of two months, without the knowledge of the Managing Board.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, the board's Chair, Bruce Odhiambo, said that an audit report had revealed unauthorized withdrawal of money from the Fund's account.

"It is our Audit Committee that raised the red flag over some funds that had been moved from our banking institutions without the knowledge or direction from the board," said Odhiambo.

The two are said to have used forged documents to move money to accounts of a different company owned by a top official in the same organization.

The Youth Fund was established in 2006 with the aim of giving loans to young entrepreneurs in a bid to fight the ever growing unemployment. The Fund is under Devolution Ministry whose Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru, is under-fire over the alleged loss of Sh 791 Million in National Youth Service (NYS).

The revelations caused uproar on social media, as youth expressed their discord over the unending corruption allegations, now blamed for the financial woes facing the nation.
