Nyali MP Hezron Awiti MP has sensationally claimed that Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has for the last four years been a puppet for his powerful brother as far as running the county government is concerned.
Awiti, who belongs to the Wiper Party that is part of the CORD coalition, claimed that Abu Joho is the one who runs the affairs of Mombasa governor while his younger brother follows his orders.
“I stand by my claim. Abu Joho runs this County with his brother Hassan Joho as his puppet. The people of Mombasa deserve better and that is the reason why am running,” Awiti claimed.
Abu is the elder brother in the Joho family and is also a respected businessman in the coastal town.
Awiti will be vying against Joho in the 2017 election and has in the past faced the challenge of being dismissed as a foreigner.
He, however, dismissed the allegations stating that although he was born in Kisumu, Mombasa is a cosmopolitan town that is home to people from different backgrounds, adding that even Joho has his roots in Tanzania.
“There is hardly anyone in this county who can claim to be an original Mpwani. Even the governor’s family has roots in faraway Tanzania. There are those with roots in Arabia and almost everyone can be traced to some other place...anyone with the correct set of policies can serve both Muslims and Christians,” the aspiring governor stated.
