British Journalist Jerome Starkey Arrested at JKIA

A British journalist was on Thursday arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) under unclear circumstances.

Jerome Starkey, an Africa correspondent for The Times, was in police custody for over 24 hours.

He was only visited by an officer at the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) who took photos of him. 

Mr Starkey informed the public through his twitter stating: “Welcome to #Kenya - just been arrested at the airport on orders of security services. Good to be back #WhyILoveKenya".

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Friday at 4.00pm, Starkey noted that he was still under arrest and no information had been divulged to him.

“I'm still in custody and still none the wiser as to why I was arrested. No one has said anything,” Starkey stated.

Mr Starkey is a British war correspondent and investigative journalist based in Nairobi.

The award-winning journalist, has lived in Kenya since 2012 when he was appointed Africa correspondent for The Times after years working in Afghanistan.
