Bungoma Woman Turned Away Seeking ID in Nyeri

A woman is crying foul after she was allegedly sent away from the National Registration office in Nyeri county while trying to get a national identity card.

23-year-old Lilian Nasimiyu, who hails from Bungoma, had visited the Nyeri office to seek the crucial document when the officers rejected her application for being a non resident.

“One of the officers chased me away and told me to go back to my ancestral home to seek the document there,” lamented Nasimiyu while speaking to NTV.

Even after being accompanied by her employer from the region, the officers still turned down their request stating that they would not register her for the national ID card.

“Language she is getting from the officers at the registry is quite uncouth,” revealed her employer Agnes Wachira.

She had gone to seek the document in Nyeri following President Kenyatta's declaration, that all Kenyans were free to register for national IDs at any place in the country.

However, Registrar in charge of Kieni West Christopher Muthee, said that all Nasimiyu needed were the necessary documents for her to be registered. Muthee affirmed that he was not around when Nasimiyu, who works as a househelp, visited the offices.
