Catholic Nun Arrested For Opposing Gov't Programme

A Catholic nun was on Monday arrested for blocking an ongoing health programme by the government in schools

Sr Cecilia Kamau, the head teacher of St Anthony Academy in Nakuru, was apprehended after she refused to let health officers immunise over 700 pupils against measles and rubella.

It is reported that Nakuru Public health boss Samuel King'ori sought the help of police officers who then stormed the school to flush out Sr Kamau.

Mr King'ori acted upon receiving complaints from parents of pupils in five Catholic-sponsored schools whose administrations had objected the health exercise.

In a report by the Nation, the institutions included: Loreto Academy, Christ the King schools, Elimu Academy among others.

The nun is set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday for endangering the lives of children.

The Ministry of Health rolled out the immunisation exercise about 2 weeks ago targeting 19 million children between the ages of 9 months and 14 years.
