In a move motivated by faith, Central Bank’s new governor Dr. Patrick Njoroge has turned down the perks that come with his position including a home and cars.
He has instead, chosen to live in a communal accommodation in Nairobi’s Loresho estate with his fellow members of Opus Dei.
Opus Dei which is Latin for ‘Work of God’ is an institution of the Catholic Church made up of lay members and priest who may work in institutions outside the church but follow set religious practices and way of life.
Some of the perks that Dr. Njoroge has given up include a home on a two acre piece of land in Muthaiga, where some big personalities like President Mwai Kibaki, the US Ambassador, British High Commissioner and former Attorney General Charles Njonjo.
He has also turned down a Range Rover, Mercedes Benz and a VW Passat.
He would not even accept the office issued smart phone or security detail.
The 9th governor of central bank has left many astounded by his modesty and humility despite being in a position where affluence comes as part of the package.
Kenya is yet to get accustomed the man who presented himself as a unique personality right from the moment he was being vetted by the parliament after being nominated for the position by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The legislators questioned his not having married at 54 or invested in Kenya.

This however did not stop the former International Monetary Fund adviser from being approved and appointed to the position.
