Click Club Owner Jackson Maina Jailed for 5 Years

A popular Nairobi businessman was on Wednesday jailed for five years over the murder of one of his clients.

Jackson Maina, the owner of Click Club located along Baricho Road, was sentenced by trial judge Stella Mutuku after the conclusion of a five-year case.

Maina was accused of killing Kelvin Oduor Onyango at his premises five years ago and was found guilty of manslaughter after the prosecution failed to provide enough evidence to sustain a murder charge.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Mutuku stated that evidence provided proved the accused frogmarched Oduor to the rooftop of the club and shot him at point blank range.

The businessman, who is a licensed firearm holder, defended himself claiming that he accidentally fired at the deceased who had tried to attack him.

He begged for leniency claiming that he was the sole breadwinner of his family and was expecting a newborn baby later in the year but the judge maintained his ruling.

In 2012, the businessman and a security guard identified as Julius Sepi were arraigned in court for the murder of Oduor who at the time was said to be a patron at the club.

Sepi was however acquitted after Justice Mutuku declared that he was not involved in the murder.

“I find that the second accused person was not involved having left Maina and Onyango at the rooftop,” she ruled.
