Cliff Mboya Announces His 2017 Presidential Bid

The battle for the 2017 presidency is bound to be a hotly-contested one considering incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta will be seeking re-election, in a race set to feature his fiercest rival, Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

This has, however, not deterred a Kenyan businessman from throwing his hat in the ring proposing interesting changes regarding the country's administration if elected President.

Announcing his entry into the presidential race, entrepreneur Cliff Mboya said he would move the capital city together with State House from Nairobi to Isiolo if he removes Kenyatta from office.

According to Mboya, Nairobi city had been infiltrated by corruption cartels and was “saturated with graft” thus the need to move the House on the hill to a different location.

"We will roll out immediate plans to move State House to the new capital as proposed in the vision 2030 agenda. We will nominate our cabinet secretaries before assuming office and they will be known to the public," he was quoted by the Star.

Speaking during a meeting to form his campaign team, the aspirant stated that he would concentrate on tackling the graft menace warning public servants and politicians to be ready for change in his administration.

The businessman further advocated for a death penalty for all found guilty of graft insisting that it would stop others from engaging in the vice.

“My agenda number one is to pass a Bill to add a clause that will extend death penalty to any individual charged in court for corruption related cases,” he added.

As the 2017 race continues to shape up, several other Kenyans have expressed interest despite being unpopular mostly due to lack of association with major political parties.

One such contestant is veteran lawyer Philip Kipchirchir Murgor who has declared he will be in the presidential race on a United Democratic Movement (UDM) ticket and he plans to have a female running mate.
