Company Linked to Uhuru's Cousins Among Those That are Under Investigation Over NYS Tenders

A company associated with cousins of President Uhuru Kenyatta is among those that are under investigations by the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission and by a parliamentary committee in connection with the Sh1.6 Billion NYS scandal.

The Sunday Nation has reported that Kenirie Ltd received Sh88.9 Million from the NYS for the supply of injector pumps.

The directors of the company are listed as Felistas Wanjiku Chege, Catherine Ngina Gatheca, and Muthoni Lucy Gatheca. Catherine and Muthoni are first cousins to President Kenyatta.

Other companies that were reported to have reaped millions from the NYS include Dayton Investment that is owned by relatives of Runjenjes MP Cecily Mbarire that earned Sh 75.6 Million for the supply of unspecified equipment and machines.

Nominated Senator Paul Njoroge, who was recently in the news after shooting at Vivo Energy CEO Polycarp Igathe, has confirmed that his company was paid Sh40 million for supplying industrial rubber gloves and gumboots.

The new revelations amid reports that the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) has been facing strong resistance as it seeks to complete its investigative reports on the infamous NYS scandal.

“It is very unfortunate that we are yet to finalise that report. It is causing us a lot of anxiety. A number of us are concerned that we are not making progress like we should. We were supposed to meet on Thursday but it was cancelled under unclear circumstances,” PAC member and Tongaren MP, Eseli Simiyu stated.

The hope of unravelling one of the largest financial scandals in recent times now lies on the EACC, whose chairman Eliud Wabukhala, has confirmed that his detectives are investigating the matter.
