CORD Announces Next Action Against IEBC

CORD leader Raila Odinga has announced that on May 2, 2016 they will heighten their efforts to remove from office commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The Opposition stated that Monday next week would be a National 'Day of Rage', calling on all their supporters to join them as they camp outside IEBC offices countrywide.

CORD further indicated that they would be camping at the Commission's premises every other Monday until the electoral body is disbanded.

The proclamation comes a day after its plan to occupy IEBC offices at Anniversary Towers was foiled by anti-riot officers, who tear-gassed them heavily.

The leaders were bombarded with teargas canisters when they tried to break into the Commission's head offices.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, however, challenged CORD to air their grievances in accordance with the law stating: "I will not allow destructive demonstrations. We have to do mature politics and be bound by the law".

Under the leadership of Opposition Chief Raila Odinga, the members caused disruption in the Central Business District (CBD) forcing police to disperse them.

The riots also spread to Kisumu where residents led by Governor Jack Ranguma came out demanding for the ouster of IEBC commissioners.
