CORD Renews Attack on CS Anne Waiguru

The admission by Devolution CS Anne Waiguru that millions of public funds had been stolen from her Ministry through fraudulent transactions, has sparked renewed calls for her resignation.

A section of CORD coalition members, led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and Awendo MP Jared Opiyo, have demanded that CS Waiguru steps down for further investigations to be conducted.

Wetangula pointed out that the Devolution CS was not in order to announce the fraud report herself.

"How can you ask a suspect to announce the outcome of an investigation into a fraud?” he queried.

The legislators went further to accuse President Uhuru Kenyatta of applying double standards, for having some of the Cabinet Secretaries step down to pave way for investigations, while CS Waiguru remained in office despite there being corruption allegations against her docket.

The Awendo MP maintained that Waiguru should take political responsibility for the NYS graft scandal through resignation.

On Friday, the CS revealed names of 22 officers who were recommended for prosecution over the NYS Sh800 million scandal.

Among the 22 individuals featured on the list was NYS Senior Deputy Director General Adan Harake.

Speaking to the media, Waiguru said investigations by CID into the saga, had also identified similar fraudulent payments worth Sh791 Million.
