Counterfeit Goods Worth Millions Discovered in Lavish Estate

The posh suburb of Loresho in Nairobi on Thursday witnessed an unusual disturbance of peace when officials from the Anti Counterfeit Agency raided a house said to have been hiding counterfeit goods.

The early morning raid led to the discovery of goods worth Sh 35 million shillings, K24 reports.

Police discovered cooking oil, sugar, detergent, cigarettes among other goods well hidden inside the house and garage.

All the goods lacked an expiry date and are believed to have been destined for the Kenyan market, to be sold to unsuspecting consumers.

Anti Counterfeit Agency CEO John Akoten said they will be working with the Kenya Bureau of Standards to establish the authenticity of the goods.

The owners of the goods and the owner of the house found it hard to explain the situation and were arrested immediately.

They were later on released on bond pending investigations.

The counterfeit agency has been working hard to stop the smuggling of counterfeit and fake goods into the market for the past months.

The agency says that the vice is hurting the Kenyan market, leaving many producers of genuine goods to incur losses.
