Court Frees Tony Gachoka From Jail

The High Court has today Monday ordered the release of political activist Tony Gachoka after spending the weekend at the Industrial Area remand prison.

In a ruling justice Weldon Korir has ordered the release of Gachoka pending the hearing and determination of an appeal filed by lawyer Gitobu Imanyara.

The high court has also suspended Gachoka's Sh2 million fine and a six months jail term he risked.

Koinange and Gachoka were on  Friday arraigned before Magistrate Maisy Chepsang for acting in contempt of court where they were given an option of paying a Sh2 million fine or a jail term of six months.

However, Gachoka was detained for allegedly failing to raise the Sh2 million fine.

The troubles facing the duo emerged after they reportedly linked Jimmi Wanjigi’s company to the Anglo-Leasing scandal on the Jeff Koinange Live show on KTN, which was in contravention of a court order.

They have since had two arrest warrants issued against them for defying court summons on May 14 and on May 25.

The duo is yet to be let off the hook as they are still faced by a defamation case filed by Wanjigi.
