Details of Opposition's 2017 Super Alliance

The CORD Coalition leaders are said to be hatching a plan to catch their Jubilee counterparts by surprise in the 2017 General Election.

Reports point at a plot to form a national coalition including leaders from all parts of the country that will be strong enough to kick out President Uhuru Kenyatta from power in the upcoming polls.

The all inclusive alliance will include kingpins of various regions who will spearhead campaigns against Jubilee and will be modeled like 2002's Rainbow Coalition which removed KANU's regime from power.

According to insiders privy to ongoing talks, the Opposition has been identifying influential politicians from all counties in an attempt to expand its dominance.

They are also said to have resorted to keeping cards close to their chest in terms of revealing the Alliance's flag bearer to keep Kenyatta guessing who his opponent will be and also protect the probable candidate against any attacks from Jubilee.

In the Coastal region, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Senator Hassan Omar have been pointed as the best foot soldiers to spread the Opposition's agenda while former Speaker Farah Maalim has been placed in charge of the North Eastern region.

Former Matuga legislator Chirau Mwakwere's defection to ODM is also said to be part of the plan to stamp CORD's authority in Kwale county where leaders have been defecting to Jubilee.

In the Western region, Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and his FORD Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula will lead a political onslaught against the ruling regime.

Sources further indicated that the Opposition is seeking to rope in Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto to dent Jubilee's influence in the Rift Valley.

They are also planning to include religious leaders to the Alliance which CORD leader Raila Odinga promised will be “all inclusive”.

"We want to create a big tent, allow as many people to join in and agree on logistics and agenda so that we do not end up with another Jubilee regime. The opposition is expanding and CORD will be part of the expanded opposition. Those focusing on CORD alone are therefore missing the point. The ultimate goal is to present a single candidate against Jubilee,” Odinga assured.
