DP Ruto Orders Drug Crackdown Near Joho’s Home

Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday made a passionate call on the need for Coastal residents to work with the government in fighting drug cartels in the region.

Speaking during a Sunday service at Soul Harvest Church in Kisauni, the Deputy President decried that a significant number of Kenyan youth have lost a chance to build a bright future because they were entrapped in drug abuse and radicalisation.

"The church should partner with the government in the fight against drug abuse and radicalization. We want the young people to be productive and contribute to nation building,” Ruto told the congregation.

At the same time, the DP called on the security agencies to be on high alert so as to ensure that drug traffickers do not get an opportunity to exploit the young people in Mombasa.

"Youths have an important role to play in the country. Drug abuse should not deter them from engaging in activities such as businesses, in a bid to transform their lives,” he reiterated.

The comments from Ruto appeared to suggest that the local leadership, led by area Governor Hassan Joho, of failing to handle the drug menace that has affected thousands of youth in the area.

Incidentally, Joho hails from Kisauni Constituency and has recently publicly attacked Ruto over the 2017 General Election.
