DPP Keriako Tobiko Directs the DCI to Investigate Chaos That Left Several Wounded in Migori

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has ordered the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Ndegwa Muhoro to investigate a shooting incident in Migori County that left Mombasa County Governor Hassan Joho’s bodyguard injured.

Governor Joho released a statement on Monday evening claiming that his bodyguard had been shot in what appeared to be an assassination attempt.

"You have been directed to immediately and urgently commence investigations into the incident...and submit the resultant file for perusal and directions," Tobiko stated in a letter directed to the DCI on Tuesday.

Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Nassir alleged that the bodyguard was shot by people connected to Migori County Governor Okoth Obado.

"This was an assassination attempt. They were after Joho. Our car was shot at three times," Nassir claimed.

A young man whose identity is unknown was also shot during the incident.

He had approached the VIP podium to interact with Governor Joho and other dignitaries and was in the process of taking a selfie with the Governor when a bullet ripped through the seat he was sitting on.

Joho was in the county to officially launch an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) office together with Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Earlier on, Governor Obado allegedly hired goons then stormed the Joho-led event in Migori town.

A fracas erupted, with some hooligans booing and throwing water bottles, stones and shoes at the podium.

This forced Obado's guards to open fire.
