EACC Cautions Public Against 35 Fake Officers In the Country

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission ( EACC) has reportedly released a list of imposters soliciting for bribes from the public.

In a report released Tuesday, the anti-graft body said that there are 35 imposters who have been soliciting money and other favours from the public purportedly to protect them from corruption investigations or prosecution.

The commission said 30 of the imposters are operating in Nairobi while the rest are in Eldoret, Kisumu and Busia.

EACC's Chief Executive Officer Halakhe Waqo revealed that seven of the fraudsters have already been arrested and imprisoned while six other cases are currently in court.

Waqo also noted that the number of fraudsters masquerading as EACC officers has been on the rise as the war on graft intensifies, The Standard reports.

The commission asked the public to be cautious and ask for appropriate identification from officers, noting that they can be verified at request.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has also asked Kenyans to be wary of impostors posing as its officers.

KRA has asked Kenyans to report any person suspected to be impersonating their officers through their hotline 020 3318493.
