Finally, Teachers' September Salaries to Be Paid From Monday

The protracted pay dispute pitting teachers against their employer could finally come to an end,  after newly appointed Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiangi released new details about teachers' September salaries.

In a statement made on his twitter timeline on Sunday afternoon, Matiangi announced that the teachers who had participated in a five-week strike would receive their withheld wages starting from Monday.

According to the CS, he had consulted stakeholders from Treasury and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) who agreed to make the payment after unending tussles about it.

Salaries of the striking teachers were withheld by TSC, an action which was seen as a punishment for the industrial action.

This prompted President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene in a meeting held at State House between TSC and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials.

However, anxiety intensified after the teachers' employer released November payslips without factoring the withheld money.

Union officials have time and again blamed TSC for allegedly frustrating teachers so as to weaken their unity.
