Former Finance Minister David Mwiraria Dies

Former Finance Minister David Mwiraria has passed on.

Mwiraria died on Thursday morning at Karen Hospital in Nairobi following a long battle with cancer and acute respiratory disease.

He was a former Member of Parliament (MP) of North Imenti and served during Mwai Kibaki's administration.

After exiting office, he was faced with several charges of economic crime in the infamous Sh4 Billion Anglo Leasing scandal.

During the case, he failed to appear for the hearing on several occasions with his lawyers divulging that he was undergoing treatment.

In 2015, the court issued an arrest warrant against the former Minister after a doctor's report indicated that he was ready to stand trial.

He was later indefinitely exempted from appearing before the court with his counsel maintaining that his condition was chronic and therefore, could not stand a lengthy trial.

He was also accused of irregularly financing a Sh6 Billion project to upgrade the police and security systems without proper planning
