Former Minister Joe Nyagah to Vie as Independent Candidate in August Election

One of President Uhuru Kenyatta's advisers has quit to run for a political office in the August 8 General Election.

Former Cooperative Development Minister Joe Nyagah who was serving as Kenyatta adviser on regional integration, resigned from his job indicating that he would vie in the upcoming polls as an independent candidate.

Nyagah was Cabinet Minister in the Grand Coalition government and was one of the members of the Pentagon during the 2007 General Election.

Confirming the reports, the former Gachoka Member of Parliament stated that he would not reveal the position he was running for assuring that he would make the announcement over the weekend.

He, however, affirmed to a local daily that he had been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and the Registrar of Political Parties to contest as an independent candidate.

Nyaga was a staunch member of the Orange Democratic Movement during the Kibaki administration but lost to MP Mutava Musyimi during the 2007 Election.

He was, however, nominated to Parliament by ODM and was appointed a Minister in the Coalition Government.
