Government Admits Failure Over Garissa Terror Attack

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaiserry has admitted that poor coordination played a role in the extensive number of deaths at Garissa University College during the terror attack by Al Shabaab terrorists.

The CS admitted that having no security officers at the gate to the university made it all too easy for the assailants to get into the campus grounds after shooting the guards at the gate dead.

He also admitted that lack of proper coordination between the Recce Squad and security guards delayed the rescue operation.

Nkaiserry was speaking Thursday before the Parliamentary Committee on Security investigating response to the Garissa attack.

He however sought to let the probe team know that top security officials in Garissa have been suspended for failing to act on intelligence they had earlier received on the attack. See: Government Suspends Top Officers Over Garissa Attack.
