Governor Forces County Officials to Rest

Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua has sent three county officials on a 90-day compulsory leave and replaced them in an absolute Cabinet reshuffle.

According to the Governor, Elijah Nguyo ( Education), Joseph Kiragu (Communication) and Priscillah Wanyiri were sent home in accordance with the county regulations.

“The three were sent on a 90-day leave in accordance with the county human resource regulations for them to recuperate for efficient service delivery”, he said in a press conference on Thursday.

The new appointees include: Erastus Muriuki (Education) Robert Thuo (Energy) and George Kariuki as the new political advisor. The reshuffling was said to have happened upon the advisement of Mr Kariuki.

Aside from the new faces introduced into the Cabinet, the Governor also split some departments such as the Lands department into Physical Planning and Housing, Transport, Infrastructure and Roads.

The Finance department was split into Finance and Accounting, and a sister Department of Economic planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.

“Out of these changes, and for the positions that have fallen vacant or have been created, I am requesting the County Assembly to fast track the vetting process of the persons we shall nominate so that my team and I can get down to work as soon as possible,” said Gachagua.

Other officials who will take office include; Alice Wachira (County Secretary) following last week’s resignation of Wambui Kimathi, Jacob Munene was appointed as Chief of Staff, replacing Simon Wachira who is facing an integrity suit before a Nyeri court.
