Here is Another Nairobi Shop that Sells to Non-Africans Only

Months after a Chinese restaurant in Nairobi was shut down because of racial discrimination, another outlet has joined the discrimination bandwagon.

The shop which has been identified as Sonia Jewellers located at Diamond Plaza, is said to be hosting everyone else apart from Africans, citing that insecurity issues have been affecting their clients.

“We don’t admit Africans whom we don’t know because you never know who is Al-Shabaab and who isn’t,” Esther Zhao, a PR manager at the restaurant told was quoted saying.

“It is not like it is written on somebody’s face that they are a thug armed with a gun.” she added, during a spotcheck by  The Nairobian.

Zhao further stated that Africans are not allowed into the shop, and are only let in if they are accompanied by a 'white person', an Indian or a Chinese.

This was discovered after a client wrote to the Nairobian claiming that he was denied access into the shop. He also said that he witnessed non-Africans being allowed into the premises with no constraints.

The investigating journalists who went to ascertain the claims were subjected to the same preferential treatment. The guard at the entrance denied them entrance, but one of their colleagues who was a Chinese, was allowed to enter without any commotion. While at the entrance, a white man walked past them and entered the shop.
