How Uhuru Has Been Targeting NASA Governors to Weaken Opposition

President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to have embarked on a plan of targeting specific leaders allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) with an aim of weakening the Opposition.

The Head of State who is keen on ensuring his re-election in the August 8 General Election is said to have hatched a plot to target especially NASA governors in different regions across the country.

According to the plan, Kenyatta is said to have authorised his team to use all necessary measures to popularise his candidature.

A report by the Nation indicates that Kenyatta's elaborate method involves snatching governors right in the opposition's strongholds, especially at the Coast, Western Kenya and parts of Nyanza.

The strategy includes wooing NASA governors into ditching the Opposition to vie for the same position on a Jubilee ticket, a move said to have caused recent defections of a number of ODM county bosses.

This has reportedly led to several governors declaring their support for the Head of State including Tana River's Hussein DadoKen Lusaka (Bungoma), Salim Mvurya (Kwale), Ukur Yatani (Marsabit) and Alfred Mutua of Machakos county.

Sources privy to the plan revealed that for those who refused to decamp, Jubilee has been fronting heavily funded opponents including the areas' Senators or Deputy governors and asking them to vie against the incumbent county chiefs.

For instance, Jubilee is said to have targeted Tana River Senator Dan Mwazo who decamped to the party and is set to vie against incumbent John Mruttu while in Mombasa, Governor Hassan Joho deputy Hazel Katana has already been persuaded to join the ruling party.

Jubilee has also allegedly been rallying the masses against the Opposition by starting up development projects in NASA strongholds and accusing area governors of lagging behind and mismanaging funds allocated to them by the National Government.

This has led to several clashes between the Head of State and governors Joho, Josphat Nanok of Turkana and Kilifi's Amason Kingi.
