Huduma Card and Other Topics Trending in Kenya on January 18, 2017

Kenyans on social media were on Wednesday engaging in various topics among them the Huduma Card which is set to offer reduced bus fares for those using it.

Here are other topics trending in Kenya today:

1. Huduma Card

The newly-unveiled Huduma Card has caught the attention of many Kenyans on social media after it was launched on Tuesday by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki.

The card will be used in paying bus fares and various goods and services. The pilot project will be rolled out in Public Service Vehicles (PSV) such as City Shuttle, Compliant, KBS, City Hoppa.

A Sh10 discount will be awarded to all passengers using the card.

2. Onyango Oloo

Former TNA Secretary-General Onyango Oloo was on the trending topics after he officially defected from President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party to join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by Raila Odinga.

During a press conference, Mr Oloo complained that the merger had "conned" TNA and the other 10 parties that had merged into the Jubilee Party.

"Little did I know that we were being led to a very vile and vicious political conmanship. Our TNA ideologies were carried into the Jubilee Merger but they have been thrust aside" Oloo stated.

3. CEO Chiloba

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba on Wednesday released a report on the progress of the ongoing mass voter registration that kicked off on Monday, January 15.

At the briefing, Mr Chiloba divulged that the electoral body registered 82,000 new voters on the first day of the exercise against a daily target of 200,000 new listings.

He, however, insisted that the registration period will not be extended after the February 14 deadline.

Chiloba also addressed the complaint raised on malfunctioning of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits, stating that only 68 of the equipment had been reported to have failed.

4. #DoitLikeCrookedJoho

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Wednesday was mocked under the hashtag #DoitlikeCrookedJoho for the controversy that seems to follow him.

From his alleged fake education certificates to the recent drama he caused at a police Station in Nairobi, some netizens joked that they ought to participate in bold underhand dealings like Mr Joho.
