Impeached Murang'a Governor Suffers Another Blow

Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria's bid to stop impeachment decision against him from being forwarded to the Senate has been declined.

The governor, who had earlier on Friday morning moved to court to challenge the impeachment, failed to convince the court to side with him. The case was however, considered urgent hence the hearing scheduled for Monday next week.

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) on Wednesday evening voted for an impeachment motion with Mwangi falling short of only two votes to save his job.

However, the motive of the ouster has been doubted after claims emerged that a politician eying the gubernatorial seat in 2017 was behind the move. Nominated MCA, Mary Waithera, who sponsored the motion reportedly revealed that they had all spent the night together prior to the voting with the bills being footed by the politician in question. She added that their aim was only to tame Mwangi.

“The governor has grown horns and I am happy we have cut them. Even if Senate saves him, he will come back to office a humble guy who respects Members of the County Assembly,” said Waithera as reported by K24.

This follows frequent wars between the governor and the MCAs with some blaming him for ignorance and failing to manage the county affairs while others have criticized his development programmes.
