InfoTrak Survey Reveals Jubilee is Most Preferred Coalition in Nairobi Compared to NASA

A study conducted by research firm InfoTrak in Nairobi has indicated that the Jubilee Party is more popular than the opposition coalition, National Super Alliance (NASA).

The study revealed that 43.2% of the respondents preferred the Jubilee Party, 40% preferred NASA, 7.6% were not affiliated with any coalition whereas 6.2% were undecided.

According to the study, Nairobi Women Representative Racheal Shebesh was the most preferred candidate for the county woman representative seat with 36.7%. Millicent Omanga, Beatrice Kwamboka, Wambui Ng’ang’a and Karen Nyamu had 12.8%, 3.5%, 3% and 2.6% respectively.

In the senatorial contest, Mike Sonko emerged the winner with 35.2% even though he is vying for the gubernatorial seat. Nominated Member of Parliament(MP) Johnson Sakaja came in second with 25.9%, former Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa came in third with 9.9% whereas Mr Mutimba Kavemba emerged fourth with 2.4%.

The study further indicated that only 4 of the current 17 MPs in Nairobi County were assured of retaining their seats in the upcoming General Election.

According to the study, Timothy Wanyonyi (Westlands), George Theuri (Embakassi East), Ken Okoth (Kibera) and Yusuf Hassan (Kamukunji) were the only legislators assured of winning the August polls after they got over 60% backing in the poll.

Most respondents were, however, not yet decided who they would vote for as they were still studying the trends and waiting for party nominations.

Nairobi County, according to the latest data from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has approximately 2,304,386 registered voters.

In 2013, the Jubilee coalition won 10 positions out the 17 National Assembly seats available in the county. Raila’s team, however, won the gubernatorial and presidential votes.
