Intelligence Officer Shot Five Times

A senior officer attached to the National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer was on Thursday shot dead in Mombasa.

29 year old Hisham Suleiman Ali was shot five times outside Mlango wa Papa in Old Town on his way from Hanifa Mosque after evening prayers.

Police officers say Ali was shot by unknown hooded gunmen at around 8 pm, The Star reports.

According to Citizen Digital, the Nairobi based officer had arrived in Mombasa three days earlier to visit his family.

He was rushed to Pandya Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

K24 reports that he was laid to rest today at his home.

Area governor Hassan Joho, Regional Head of intelligence Paul Langat and Mombasa police boss Geoffrey Mayek assured residents that investigations into the shooting have already began.

UPDATE

The police have released the identity of the suspect behind the killing of the NIS officer.

Coast Regional Commander Robert Kitur stated that Ismail Shosi is wanted over the killing, Capital Fm reports.
