K24 Journalist Receives Death Threats

A K24 journalist on Friday recorded a statement with the police over claims that he had been threatened by a local politician.

Embu-based Dickson Macharia alleged that he received death threats from a politician eyeing the Mbeere North parliamentary seat for publishing some content on social media.

Macharia, a cameraman, said he was leaving an entertainment joint in the town when the aspirant confronted him accusing him of tarnishing his name ahead of the Jubilee nominations.

According to the journalist, the politician claimed to possess a licensed firearm warning him to leave Embu town within the next two weeks failure to which he would be harmed.

“The politician confronted me and asked me why I was publishing offensive material on social media. What hurt me was the threat on my life and my family,” he stated.

The parliamentary aspirant is said to be a member of the Embu County Executive.

Confirming the incident, acting Embu West DCIO George Etyang said that they had begun investigations into the matter.

“We will investigate and forward the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions. We don't take chances with security matters,” assured Etyang.
