KDF, GSU Officers Storm Suspected Ship At Port

Workers at the Kenya Ports Authority in Mombasa could not access the premises on Thursday night, after security agents stormed the port in an operation that left many in speculation.

A contingent of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Regular Police barricaded the facility at around 9pm shutting out employees who had gone for the night shift.

Sources said that the officers could have been acting on information that perhaps a cache of ammunition or drugs had been shipped to the port.

According to witnesses, the security agents arrived at the port as a vessel that was shipping cars was docking.

The Port's Managing Director Gichiri Ndua told the Nation that he was also unaware of what was going on and had been denied access as other employees.

Mombasa Port which serves the region has in the recent times seen collections of illegal commodities confiscated upon arrival or departure of various shipping vessels.

It is reported that the government suspects that drugs, poached products and weapons are brought into the country and exported through the same port.

By Friday morning, the Port's management was yet to confirm what took place during the night operation.
