KDF Rescues Kidnapped KCSE Invigilator

A Kenyan teacher who was kidnapped on Monday by Al-Shabaab militia was rescued on Friday in Somalia, after a shoot-out between the Kenya Defence Forces and the terror group.

Judy Mutua was abducted at the Hagadera Camp in Dadaab, but was safely evacuated by a contingent of officers from the KDF, Rapid Deployment Unit of the Administration Police and the Somali National Army. The security men are said to have killed one of the abductors and arrested another.

In a press statement to the media, the Ministry of Defence revealed that upon completion of the 10am operation, Ms Mutua was taken for treatment at a secured location before being airlifted to Nairobi.

Despite the operation being successful, four of the kidnappers managed to escape but security forces promised to pursue them till they were captured.

"We mounted a massive land and air operation immediately the incident took place and have been pursuing the kidnappers since the kidnapping, so we will not rest until all the rest of the culprits are brought to book.," said, North-Eastern Regional Co-ordinator Mohamud Saleh.

Mr Saleh thanked residents for co-operating with the forces untill Ms Mutua's safe retrieval.

The invigilator who is an employee of Windle Trust International, was abducted when Al-Shabaab militants ambushed a vehicle she was travelling in and drove off only to dump the car later and take her hostage.

Mr Saleh affirmed that Ms Mutua was in good condition but had gone through a lot of traumatising experiences that necessitated a medical check-up before she was taken to Garissa.
