Kenya Suspends Multi-Million AD Deal With CNN

Kenya has suspended a multi-million shilling advertising deal with CNN after the network described Kenya as a hotbed of terror as they discussed the US President's visit to Kenya.

The remarks were met with ridicule from Kenyans on Twitter with the world wide trend #SomeoneTellCNN highlighting reasons why CNN was wrong.

The Kenyan government did not take the comments lightly with the Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery issuing a press brief demanding an apology from CNN.

The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) said that the move was necessary to avoid backlash from Kenyans angered by the misinterpretation of the country's security.

The deal with CNN was to run for 12 months targeting Asia, Africa, Europe and the US.

CNN comments were in reference to the terror attacks in Kenya but CNN crossed the line when they compared Kenya to being more dangerous than Afghanistan and Iran.

KTB CEO Muriithi Ndegwa said that they will look at other options as the agency estimates about Sh 5.2 billion will be required to revive the struggling industry.

KTB is looking into encouraging domestic tourism across the 47 counties as they work on the foreign tourism challenges.

Kenyans.co.ke reached out to KTB but they declined to comment.
