Meru County Government has sparked public outrage for allegedly procuring hospital curtains worth Sh7.8 Million for the County's General Hospital.
Kenyans took to social media to protest the supposedly extravagant spending under the hashtag #MeruGeneralHospitalCurtains.
Meru joins the list of counties that have come under fire for over-spending funds on projects considered inappropriate or unnecessary.
Almost a month ago, Kirinyaga County allegedly spent Sh1.2 Million on opening a Facebook account. The County Government however defended itself saying that they had contracted services of managing social media as per the regulations provided in the Public Procurement Act.
In other instances, Nyamira County Government's expenditure of Sh7.6 Million on the construction of a hospital gate and Bungoma County's Sh1.09 Million wheelbarrows, also aroused reactions from all fronts with many terming the governments as “total jokers”.
Meru Governor Peter Munya however stated in a tweet that an internal audit revealing the ones responsible for the outrageous procurement of curtains, would be revealed on Tuesday by the County Executive for Health Services.
Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans on Twitter:
