Kenyans Plead With Obama Over Eurobond

Kenyans on Twitter are now pleading with US President Barack Obama to help Kenya recover the over Sh100 Billion EuroBond Funds that was purportedly lost or stolen.

While heeding to Obama's advice to the youth on corruption in the country, a section of young Kenyans posted a petition on the White House website asking for assistance in fighting the vice and recover the 'lost' money.

In the petition titled 'Have US AG Loretta Lynch help Kenyans recover their Looted Eurobond Proceeds', the group indicated: “We reach out to the Attorney General knowing well that United States President Barrack Obama who visited Kenya last year, asked the youth to step-up and take their place in society and a US bank is involved in this scandal."

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch is expected in the Kenya this week.

As at 12.45pm on Monday, the campaign had garnered 1,467 signatures with 98,733 signatures remaining for it to pass.

The EuroBond Saga has been on the Kenyan headlines after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga indicated that part of the funds were either missing or stolen.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich however, said that all the money had been utilized in various government projects.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) also investigated the matter and concluded that after interviewing more than 30 government officials, no money was lost or laws broken in the Eurobond transactions.

The antigraft agency further advised the Director of Public Prosecutions to close the case files.

However, DPP Keriako Tobiko last week indicated that there were gaps in the report submitted by EACC, citing that the matter could not be closed yet.

“The ODPP team noted some crucial areas that require clarification and or additional information before a definitive decision can be made on this matter,” Tobiko was quoted by the Nation.
