Laikipia Nature Conservancy Owner Kuki Gullman shot in Laikipia

Renowned Conservationist and author Kuki Gallman was on Sunday morning shot and injured by illegal herders.

The Laikipia Conservancy Ranch owner was shot after illegal raiders invaded her ranch.

Gallman's shooting marks the height of violence in Laikipia where armed herders have run down conservancies, destroyed and looted property.

Laikipia County has for the past few months been marred by violence where a lot of people have been killed and scores injured after attacks by illegal raiders.

Last month, illegal raiders attacked Gallman's Mukutan Retreat valued to be worth millions of Shillings and burned it down and destroyed 10,000 acres of vegetation at Laikipia Nature and Conservancy ranch.

The shooting of the conservationist comes only a few weeks after her daughter Sveva Gallman was shot and seriously injured at Mukutan Retreat.

In March, British Rancher Tristan Voorspuy was shot dead in his Sosian ranch forcing president Uhuru Kenyatta to deploy the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) in Laikipia to flush out bandits and seize illegal guns used in the incessant raids.

Kuki Gallmann is known internationally for her memoir "I Dreamed of Africa".

Ms Gallman has since been airlifted to Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi where she is currently receiving treatment
