Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Stole the Late Mutula Kilonzo's Funeral Money - Mutula Kilonzo Junior

Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua is in the spotlight after Makueni County Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior accused him of stealing Machakos County's contribution to the funeral of the late lawyer, Education minister and Makueni Senator, Mutula Kilonzo.

In 2014, reports from the Auditor General indicated that Governor Mutua signed in person Sh2.8 Million as a funeral contribution for the late Senator Kilonzo.

Mr Kilonzo Junior who chaired his late father's funeral committee, however, stated that no such funds were availed to the funeral committee and accused the Governor of  'eating money meant for the dead '.

"Mutua purports to have paid for some things during mzee’s funeral, like the sound system and videography. But those things were paid for by my office and I have the receipts.

"All service providers signed contracts with my office and were paid upon delivery. He only gave me Sh500,000 in cash, which was accounted for and approved by the funeral committee," the Senator stated.

The youthful Senator explained that Machakos County was never invited to help with the funeral arrangements, stating that how the county got involved was a mystery and urged all the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.

"He should be called upon to show where those services were rendered because they weren’t rendered at the funeral as we had a central management team," Mutula Jr stated.

Governor Mutua has been facing a series of corruption allegations in Machakos County with the latest being an impeachment motion in November 2016,  where the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader was accused of having a skewed procurement system, awarding shifty contracts and paying dubious companies millions of shillings.

Attempts by Kenyans.co.ke to reach Governor Mutua for a comment and clarification were futile as calls to him went unanswered.
