Magufuli's Team Dismisses Letter Blocking Nairobi Businessman John Wanjigi from Tanzania

A letter allegedly issued by Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli's administration, blocking Kenyan businessman John Maina Wanjigi from the country, sparked controversy after it was shared on social media.

According to the missive signed by Magufuli's Director of Communication, Gerson Msigwa, the controversial proprietor was restricted from conducting businesses in the country highlighting that his dealings were dubious.

"Rais wa Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania Mhe. Dkt. John Pombe Magufuli, leo tarehe 24 February, 2017 ametoa shauri ya kuikashifu na kumzuia mwanabiashara tepeli Bwana Jimmy Maina Wanjigi kutofanya biashara nchini Tanzania kwa madai ya kuhusika kwa kufanya biashara hewa, (Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli has on February 24, 2017 issued orders barring rogue businessman Mr Jimmy Maina Wanjigi from conducting businesses in Tanzania over claims of being involved in non-existent businesses),"the notice read in part.

The letter was shared by among others political activist, Tony Gachoka, who used it to warn President Uhuru Kenyatta of his reluctance in combating corruption.

In his opinion, Gachoka mentioned that Mr Kenyatta should be ashamed by his lack of commitment to curb the vice noting that the move by Magufuli should be an eye-opener to him.

"Rais @MagufuliJP bans Kenya's James Bond from Tanzania is shocking statement @UKenyatta should be ashamed @ inaction!" Gachoka said.

Mr Msigwa was forced to respond to controversial letter dismissing it as propaganda.

"Taarifa hii sio ya Ikulu. Imetengenezwa na wahalifu wa mtandao. IPUUZWE!!!!" ( The letter is not from State House. It has been crafted by cyber criminals. Dismiss it!!!), he said.

In 2015, Gachoka linked Mr Wanjigi to the infamous Anglo leasing corruption scandal which saw Billions lost through non-delivery of goods and services and massive overpricing.
