Marsabit Leaders Endorse Uhuru After Meeting at State House

Opposition leader Raila Odinga's team has once again suffered a major blow after 30 politicians allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) backed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani led 29 other politicians including four MPS and 25 MCAs into ditching the Opposition after a meeting with President Kenyatta at State House.

The MPs who defected included Chachu Ganya (North Horr), Nasra Ibrahim (Women Rep) and Joseph Lekuton (Laisamis) and were accompanied by Roba Duba of Moyale and 25 MCAs who expressed support for Kenyatta's re-election.

The leaders were also accompanied by more than 300 elders representing the 15 communities living in Kenya’s biggest county as they expressed their support for President Kenyatta.

During the ceremony, Governor Yattani stated that the leaders decided to support the government citing development projects implemented in the area.

“We have decided to leave the opposition because the people of Marsabit are very grateful for the work you have done for us including the construction of the tarmac road. Now there is a bus that travels from Mombasa to Addis Ababa through Moyale and that is one of the reasons that the people of Marsabit will all vote for you,” asserted the governor.

This is the latest raid by Jubilee on NASA after four other leaders from Tana River and Taita Taveta decamped from Opposition over the weekend.

The four included Women reps Halima Ware and Joyce Lay, Tana River Governor Hussein Dado and Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo.
