Mary Keittany Breaks World Record Time For Womens Only Marathon

Renown Kenyan athlete Mary Keittany on Sunday broke the marathon world record after winning the London Marathon in a record time of 2:17:01.

The 35 year old crossed the finishing line in unoffically world record time for the womens only marathon event.

Ms Keittany picked her third victory in the london Marathon having previously won the race in 2011 and 2012.

She defeated Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba and 5,000 metres world holder who finished second in her marathon debut.

The Record was previously held by Paula Radiciffe.

It was a double celebration in London for Kenya after newcomer Daniel Wanjiru stunned world record holder Kenenisa Bekele to win the mens race in a time of 2.05.56.
