Meru County Jubilee Aspirants to Receive Direct Party Nomination Tickets

President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee party on Tuesday announced a list of Meru political aspirants who would not have to go through the party primaries process but would instead receive direct nomination tickets.

Speaking in Meru, County Jubilee Party Branch Secretary Al Hajj Mwendia revealed that these aspirants remained unopposed as no challengers had shown interest.

Igembe South Member of Parliament Mithika Linturi, who is vying for the Senator seat, and Senator Kiraitu Murungi who is eyeing the governorship are among the prominent politicians who will receive the certificate of nomination.

Other politicians include Buuri parliamentary hopeful Mugambi Lindikiri, Igembe South MP aspirant Dr Rufus Miriti and Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi

"We are going to campaign for them and ask the national government to support them," Mwendia assured.

The new move contradicts the President's earlier assertion that Jubilee would not issue direct nominations for Jubilee aspirants but instead citizens would decide the leaders they want.

"No one seeking our party’s ticket – from MCA to president – will be given a direct ticket until after the nominations are held and the electorate have picked their choice," the President had emphasised.

The Branch Secretary noted that primaries for parliamentary aspirants would be highly contested but urged those who will lose to support the winners as they would be accorded opportunities to serve within the party.

"We are sure of forming the county and national governments after the General Election. We have certificates for all the contestants and would like to assure them that they will be part of the government," he concluded, urging the lucky aspirants to campaign aggressively.
