MPs Complain Over Lack of Toilet Paper

Members of Parliament have complained that the house lacks basic amenities such as toilet paper and better offices due to inadequate funding.

Speaking during a meeting between Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee (BAC) on Monday, Kinangop MP Stephen Mburu claimed that he had a 'filthy' office.

“There is no toilet paper in Parliament. I have no office. I have not tasted the services of a parliamentary office. I am accommodated in a filthy office out there. Parliament is having serious problems,” said Kinangop MP Stephen Mburu.

During the meeting, the lawmakers admitted that they faced serious challenges that were embarrassing to mention in front of the media.

The BAC members forced Rotich to allocate them an additional Sh4 Billion budget expenditure plan for the next financial year.

Led by Mbeere South MP Mutava Musyimi, they rejected the initial proposal of Sh24.8 Million which was to cater for both houses.

However, CS Rotich termed their demand unreasonable stating that the two houses had not even exhausted last year's allocation.

The MPs' demand comes a few days before the Treasury boss tables the National budget in Parliament come Wednesday.
