Members of Parliament from the Western Kenya region have turned down an invite, to a meeting at State House.
The legislators were set to have a meeting with the President today at 8am.
However, speaking to Journalists at Parliament buildings, the caucus announced their decision to decline the invite, noting that the invitation was not inclusive, since leaders from the Coast and Nyanza regions were not invited.
"It is the position of the caucus that the sugar question goes beyond western Kenya stretching to the Nyanza and coastal sugar belts," Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba said.
The Budalangi legislator said, they had “politely” declined to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta as details of the trade agreement between Kenya and Uganda were “scanty”.
"Any agreement with anybody can only be for the sole purpose of advancing the interests of our people. Following our deliberations the caucus has resolved to politely decline the invitation for the stated reason," he said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s trip to Uganda continues to flare up into a political tussle with the government being accused of signing a sugar agreement with Uganda.
The government has since denied the claims.
