Njenga Karume Grandson Brutally 'Kills' Girlfriend

Police have arrested a grandson of the late veteran politician and tycoon Njenga Karume, who is accused of killing his girlfriend on Thursday night.

Kenneth Wathugi Karume, 30, is alleged to have shoved Ms Mumbi Kalungia off the fourth floor of an apartment block in Kiambu County, amid a fierce domestic brawl.

Ms Wambui, who died on the spot, is said to have suffered electrocution after falling on the premises' electric fence, then hit the wall before falling on the ground.

The deceased is reported to have sustained serious injuries on her limbs, head and back.

Neighbours indicated that they first heard the 30-year-old lady scream for help before she suddenly went silent.

Residents in the area stated that a commotion ensued and as they rushed out, they found the body of the young woman lying outside the compound of the apartment.

The accused, who was at that time standing at the balcony, attempted to escape but was nabbed by locals in the adjacent apartments.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu County Police Commandant, James Mugera stated that they were interrogating Mr Wathugi.

“They discovered the lady’s body on the ground. He is at the Kiambu Police Station and helping us with information as to what happened during the 11pm incident,” Mr Mugera said.

The suspect is the son of Joseph Karume Njenga who is the first son of the late Defence Minister.
