Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has warned the public against sharing graphic images of Kenyan soldiers killed in Somalia.
Addressing the media in Mombasa on Saturday, Nkaissery said that circulation of images from Friday's attack by al shabaab militia group on a Kenya Defence Forces Camp, will not be tolerated.
"I have directed the Inspector General of Police to apprehend those circulating images of the attack on El Adde,"
CS Nkaissery said that sharing photos of dead soldiers was unpatriotic and was a form of sympathising with the terrorists.
“We have noted with great concern that there are unpatriotic characters who are still keen on amplifying the terrorist agenda through sharing of photos and sympathising with the terrorists in such times of our nation’s loss,” he added.
The CS did not give figures of fallen soldiers but promised they would release the information once an operation against the terrorists was over and a report done.
He further stated that more militiamen died in the heavy fighting at the AMISOM Camp in El-adde compared to KDF casualties.
At the press briefing, Nkaissery also confirmed that by Saturday injured soldiers had been airlifted home.
It is reported that the dawn attack recorded the highest number of casualties on KDF since Kenya launched an offensive into Somalia in October 201, to crush al shabaab group that had posed serious threat to the country's security.
