NTSA Dismisses Online Message Warning Driving License Holders in Kenya

A message instructing Kenyan drivers to seek clarification on the status of their driving licenses has caught the attention of many on social media.

According to the notice allegedly originating from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Kenyans were directed to send a short code message in order to know the status of their DL and avoid being delayed on roadblocks.

Those who fail to ensure their details are on the ecitizen and NTSA portal by December 31, 2016 will have to redo the driving test.

"Type DL followed by space and the your ID number and send to 22846 to receive the status of your driving licence current status from NTSA. Don't miss out because police and NTSA are now using this and if the details are missing it can cause you some delays on the road block,” the message read.

However, NTSA has since dismissed the warning stating that the notice was not true.

"The message doing rounds on social media is not true, however, from 1st Jan,2017, manual transfer of vehicles will not be done," the Authority mentioned.

In 2014, NTSA ceased conducting manual registration of driving licenses which now requires individuals to visit the authority’s portal (www.ntsa.go.ke) and sign up for an e-citizen account.
