Nyali Parliamentary Aspirant Mohammed Ali Accuses Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho of Rigging the Primaries

Nyali parliamentary aspirant Mohammed Ali aka 'Jicho Pevu' has accused Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho of rigging the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party primaries to favour his cousin Said Abdalla 'Saido' who was declared victorious on Sunday.

The renowned investigative journalist claimed that polling station attendants were all county government officials who were serving the Governor's interest in the poll.

He added that he had video evidence of Joho's family members who were dishing out cash to voters on the voting day bribing them to vote against him.

Mohammed Ali accused the ODM Deputy Leader of interfering with the process by visiting polling stations which intimidated the election officials.

The newcomer to politics also accused the election officials of voter suppression alleging that 10 out of the 15 polling stations he believed to be his strongholds were only allowed to start voting at 3pm.

The politician claims that the police arrested two people with more than 2600 ballot papers already marked for Said Abdalla.

Mohammed maintained that he had won in the primaries citing that he had gathered more votes in Abdalla's strongholds.

Speaking to NTV, he declared that he would still be on the ballot on August 8 but he was pursuing an appeal with the party on Monday.

The ODM National Elections Board has since announced that it is still awaiting the Presiding Officer's report on the Nyali primaries.
