Nyanza Shockingly Ranks Uhuru's Performance High

Opposition's political stronghold Nyanza region is surprisingly impressed with the performance of President Uhuru Kenyatta 's Government. 

According to a recent survey undertaken by Afrisearch Limited gauging the satisfaction the citizentry has with Jubilee's performance, Nyanza residents are almost as satisfied as their counterparts in the Central region.

The two regions registered satisfaction levels of 51 per cent and 53 per cent respectively.

The Coastal region is the most unsatisfied with the performance of the Jubilee Government at 46.6 per cent. North Eastern was the most satisfied registering 72 per cent while Rift Valley had 59.9 per cent,

On the other hand the Western and Eastern Kenya regions had 52 per cent and 48 per cent respectively.

Nyanza and Coast regions declared overwhelming support for the Opposition in the 2013 General Election. Leaders in the area have been outspoken about receiving the short end of the stick, while claiming that development is focused on Rift Valley and Central Kenya regions.

The new survey places Jubilee's performance at average, registering a general 54.4 per cent. It highlighted Jubilee’s performance in various sectors including; Security, Finances, International Relations, Lands and Housing, Sports, Youth and Culture.

Infrastructure and Health Care were the government's strong points where it had a score of 62.4 per cent and 61.9 per cent.

The study team found that the ongoing construction of the Standard Gauge Railway and major road projects countrywide contributed to the score.

However, many also lamented that President Kenyatta was insincere in his fight against corruption.

“Those polled said the fact that no prominent Kenyan has been jailed for graft shows lack of commitment in the onslaught against the vice,” read the report.

Fight against corruption and management of public funds scored lowest with 46.6 and 46.1 per cent respectively.

The government's mandate to increase the number of households connected to electricity under the Last Mile Connectivity project, scored highly in Nyanza and Central regions at 63 and 65 per cent.

Despite accusations of derailing devolution in the just concluded governor's conference, the Northern Kenya region gave the government 65.1 per cent followed by Rift Valley, Central, Nairobi with 61 per cent, 56.8 per cent and 54.3 per cent respectively.

However, Coast and Eastern regions thought that the government efforts in backing devolution were dismal. The two regions rated the Jubilee administration lowest at 42.4 per cent and 45.8 per cent respectively.
