ODM Punishes Leaders Accused of Violence

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced strict punishment for leaders accused of perpetrating violence.

In a statement by ODM Executive Director, Mr Oduor Ong'wen, six prominent politicians were found responsible for causing disturbances in Homa Bay county during a memorial service for the late Senator Otieno Kajwang'.

During the said event at Homa Bay Stadium, the fracas erupted in the presence of party leader Raila Odinga where supporters engaged in heckling, throwing stones and armed assault.

Mr Ong'wen noted with concern that the six culprits had violated the party's Code of Conduct and were a threat to it's commitment to achieving peaceful party primaries in April.

In light of the events, the ODM National Elections Board (NEB) recommended that County Youth leader Kevin Ouma be banned from holding any elective or appointive Party office.

It also directed that Governor Cyprian AwitiJ. Oyugi Magwanga (MP Kasipul), Peter Kaluma (MP Homa Bay Town), Gladys Wanga (Women rep), Washington Ogaga and Ouma  be severely reprimanded and undertake not to perpetrate, sponsor, support or be associated with any acts of violence or disruption before, during or after the forthcoming elections.

The NEB, further, recommended that Kaluma and Ogaga be fined Sh100, 000 each.

The party cautioned the leaders that future involvement in any acts of disruption or violence would lead to automatic disqualification from seeking any office in the ODM.
