Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Ordered to Reconstitute Kisumu County Elections Board

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has been ordered to reconstitute afresh the Kisumu County Elections Board or face legal action.

The Political Parties Tribunal ordered ODM to reconstitute the board by 11 am Friday or face sanctions after two petitioners moved to the tribunal to challenge the appointment of the county elections board.

The two, Hezron Opiyo and John Oketch Ongere, claimed that the board was biased and constituted Kisumu Senator Anyang' Nyong'o and Nyando MP Fred Outa's allies.

The petitioners argued that the Kisumu County Elections board acting chair Kennedy Ajwang', had also been appointed to the elections board.

They noted that Ajwang's appointment to the two posts compromised his neutrality on matters elections in the county.

Opiyo and Ongere added that making Ajwang' a member of the elections board would automatically render the party’s elections as not free and fair.

The two also sought the Kyalo Mbobu led tribunal to issue an immediate injunction to stop the nominations that had been slated for April 24.

A section of aspirants had also earlier alleged that the County Elections Board was made up of partisan individuals and demanded that the board is disbanded.

The aspirants had also alluded that the board should not be allowed to conduct the party nominations and that polling stations should not be merged as it would favour certain candidates.
