Pastor Flees Ruto Prayer Meeting

A clergyman was on Wednesday forced to flee a prayer meeting for Deputy President William Ruto and Journalist Joshua Sang after rowdy youth caused chaos.

Reverend Peter Rono of a Pentecostal Church in Kapsabet was supposed to preside over the thanksgiving prayers at Kipchoge Keino Stadium, but he took off saying that hooligans had taken over the function.

The drunken youth stormed the meeting with twigs claiming that the meeting had been arranged in a hurry and that they had not been included in the planning.

Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat, who had organized the meeting to celebrate the termination of DP Ruto and Sang's case at the International Criminal Court, postponed the event after attempts to calm the youth proved futile.

Nandi Women Representative Zipporah Kering and Assembly Speaker Edwin Cheluget also attempted to calm the agitated crowd but were unsuccessful.

Governor Lagat declared that the 'forces of darkness' that had planned to have Ruto and Sang imprisoned had been defeated and that they would be firm in the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP).

On Tuesday, ICC judges ruled that Ruto and Sang had no case to answer in relation to the 2007/2008 Post-Election Violence. The ruling sent residents of Eldoret and selected parts of the country into a frenzy with a big thanksgiving celebration being scheduled for April 16.
